Highly Coordinated Heteronuclear Calcium–Iron Carbonyl Cation Complexes [CaFe(CO) n ] + ( n =5–12) with d−d Bonding

Abstract Heteronuclear calcium–iron carbonyl cation complexes in the form of [CaFe(CO) n ] + ( =5–12) are produced gas phase. Infrared photodissociation spectroscopy conjunction with quantum chemical calculations confirm that =10 complex is coordination saturated ion where a Fe(CO) 4 fragment bonded Ca(CO) 6 through two side‐on bridging ligands. Bonding analysis indicates it best described by bonding interactions between [Ca(CO) 2+ dication and an [Fe(CO) − anion forming Fe→Ca d−d dative bond [(CO) Ca–Fe(CO) structure, which enriches pool experimentally observed calcium mimic transition metal compounds. Cationic gold carbonyl complexes supported by N-heterocyclic carbene ligands, SIDipp and IDipp, have been synthesized. [(SIDipp)Au(CO)][SbF(6)] has a linear, two-coordinate gold center. [(SIDipp)Au(CO)][SbF(6)] and [(IDipp)Au(CO)][SbF(6)] display ̃ν(CO) values at 2197 and 2193 cm(-1), respectively. Computational studies on [(SIMe)Au(CO)](+) indicate the presence of a strong Au(I)-CO bond.
